"And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us."
Engraved with illustrations by Hans Holbein, who was a German and Swiss artist and printmaker in the 16th century. The illustrations highlight the devils at every turn of life which buffet and attack the Saints. You see this in the various images surrounding the lyrics where temptations and attacks are a regular occurrence in life, yet our God is a mighty fortress for us to take shelter in during life’s storms and trials! Images include Adam & Eve and Cain & Able as well as many others that represent temptations and trials.
The etchings are taken from Holbein's “Alphabet of Death” series which was published in 1524. More than, likely Luther would have been familiar with these very images of life and death.
Two pre drilled holes on the back allow for ease of hanging as well as perfectly beveled edges.
