Our world is consumed with itself and material gain. The value of one's life is often determined in society by how much worldly goods and money one has. Beyond this, children are taught from a young age to seek out wealth and gain above all else. The phrase "Take what you can, and give nothing back" from that famous Pirates of the Caribbean movie rings true for the vast majority of people. And why not? Aren't we all just randomly evolved animals here by sheer accident? And if that is true, then I need to "get mine" before I die, cause... why not?

Engage the culture with the words of Jesus found in Mark 8:36 ESV "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" and pursue them with the love of Christ.
