How many times have we seen Arminians take 2 Peter 3:9 out of context? They completely ignore the fact that Peter started the chapter just 8 verses earlier and in literally the previous verse, verse 8, speaking he is to... "Beloved"? And yet they treat that verse, because tradition has blinded them, as if "you", "any" means every single human who ever lived.

In 2 Peter 3:9, Peter is not saying "any" in terms of the entire world, all humanity. Peter in verse 8 is speaking to the "beloved", Christians/elect, then in verse 9 he tells them that God is patient towards "you" not willing that "any" should perish.

In order for "any" to mean all humanity, they must be able to demonstrate where Peter stops talking about Christians, and about all humanity in general. They must be able to show a subject change away from "beloved" and to "every single human who ever lived", and the text simply does not allow for that.

In reformed theology, God is not trying to save all humanity. When it says he is not willing any should perish, God doesn't fail to accomplish His will. If you believe that God is not willing that any should perish, meaning all humanity, God has somehow failed to accomplish his will. Which, contrary to that premise, scripture actually says nothing can stop God from accomplishing his will.

See Daniel:
Daniel 4:35
all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing,
and he does according to his will among the host of heaven
and among the inhabitants of the earth;
and none can stay his hand
or say to him, “What have you done?”

This also ties into Jesus words in John 6.

John 6:37-39
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.

If you believe that God gave "all" humanity to Jesus to save, Jesus said it is God's will that He lose none the Father gives him. But yet people are lost in hell. This means then that Jesus failed to do the father's will, because He lost some given to Him by the Father.

The consistent interpretation then is that God is not trying to save all humans and has not given all humans to Jesus to save.
